Knudsen, the president of the General Motors Corporation, who is the defence production co-ordinator, stated to-day that Britain would need to build 38 factories in the United States to obtain the production of 3000 planes monthly, while such production could not be reached before the middle of 1942. He stated that he was preparing for the British an estimate of the costs of the factory equipment necessary. The present United States plane production was approximately 900 monthly, said Mr. Knudsen. Britain would obtain 236 planes from the August production.

Mr. Knudsen added that it took from six to 11 months to erect, and equip an aircraft factory.
