A communique issued in Cairo states that valuable reconnaissance (lights were carried out by aircraft of the South African Air Force in the Moyale districts and motor transport was attacked on the Moyale-Buna road, direct hits being registered on a number of lorries. When raiding the storage depot at Massawa, Royal Air Force bombers encountered strong anti-aircraft and fighter defences, but the bombs fell on the target in a cluster. One building was demolished. All the British planes returned. Blenheims carried out four raids on Macaca and Assab, attacking the aerodrome hangars and naval barracks. A direct hit was secured on the hangars at Macaca. resulting in a cloud of smoke rising 1000 ft. Mersa Matruh was bombed six times on Wednesday by the Italians with the total result that a workshop was slightly damaged and a small petrol dump set on fire. There were four casualties.

A communique issued in Rome states: "An Italian bombing formation carried out a long night flight and effectively bombed the naval base at Gibraltar. All planes returned to their bases."
