RED CROSS APPEAL
£400,000 IN SIGHT CONCLUDING STAGES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. With the appeal closed in all districts except Auckland and Gisborne the sick, wounded and distress fund has reached £393,000, according to figures released by the honorary Dominion organiser, Major J. Abel, of Wellington. Major Abel said that considerable amounts were still being received from organised functions and raffles. He was confident that when ail were in hand the fund would be in the vicinity of £450,000. Following are the district totals: Wellington, £105,000; Auckland, £95.000; Canterbury, £70,000; Otago. £50,000; Hawke’s Bay, £29,300; Taranaki, £IO,OOO. Gisborne, £6000; Marlborough, £32o® Nelson, £2700; and West Coast, £I7OO. Miscellaneous amounts total about £15,000. It is anticipated that the Auckland total will considerably exceed £IOO,OOO.
