JAPAN MAY MOVE

ACTIVITIES IN EAST DUTCH INDIES WATCH STRENGTH AT SINGAPORE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. “Although overshadowed by events in Europe, I fully anticipate that Japan’s activities in the East will be much in the news in the near future,” said Mr. H. J. Kelliher, who returned to-day from a visit to Australia and the East. He said the surrender of the Netherlands army had shed a deep gloom over the Dutch East Indies, causing the Sirib-Japanese situation to assume an entirely different aspect. Japan's future intentions and the stand taken by the United States was the main topic of conversation. “In Singapore I found a state of intense activity and expectancy amidst a remarkable calm.” he said. “I was more impressed with the confidence in the strength of the British Empire in this part of the world than anywhere else I have been.”
