ANTI-ALLIED CROWDS
PARADES IN MADRID DEMAND FOR GIBRALTAR (Reed. June 17, 9 a.m.) MADRID, June 15. “Tangier is forever Spain’s!” “Gibraltar is Spanish!,” were cries from enthusiastic crowds demonstrating in Madrid. The fact that a representative of the Mayor and the Municipal Bank participated in the demonstrations signified official approval. Crowds marched to the Italian and German Embassies and cheered Signor Mussolini. Heavy guards were mounted at the British and French Embassies. Vigilance has been redoubled on both sides of Spain and Gibraltar. Senor Gonzales Oliveros, civil governor of Madrid, addressing 1000 demonstrators celebrating the occupation of Tangier, said: “General Franco has begun the construction of the Empire he promised us.” The parade which followed carried banners demanding the return of Gibraltar. The Spanish troops in Tangier have risen from 1200 to 3500. A Spanish cruiser nas arrived in Tangier Bay.
