PATRIOTIC EFFORT

TE HAPARA WORKERS m SEWING GROUP FORMED The patriotic work to be done in the Te Hapara district, was discussed on Thursday at a special meeting convened by Mrs. R. Kelly and attended by over 40 women of the district. Mrs. Kelly said that the meeting had been convened in order to form a war r workers’ organisation in that part of the borough, and she emphasised the need for every New Zealander to be thankful for the freedom enjoyed in this country to-day, despite the destruction and devastation that was overtaking other parts of ihe world. The speaker also stressed the necessity for a unified effort to contribute the maximum to patriotic work, and outlined the work it was proposed to do in Te Hapara.

Mrs. R. U. Burke, representing the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Council, explained in detail the activities and objectives of the various sewing groups working under the organisation and demonstrated the type of work most suitable.

It was decided to form a group, to be known as the Te Hapara Patriotic Sewing Circle, which would meet in the Cook Street Hall, Te Hapara, at 2 p.m. overy Thursday. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. R. Kelly; secretary, Mrs. L. E. Attwell; treasurer, Mrs. H. E., Harvey; committee, Mesdames H. Robinson, Hankey, Sutherland, Crone,. Short, Worsfold, Tyerman and Borliam.
