Crayfish Supplies

Since business in crayfishing was suspended by a licensee who had his headquarters at Turihaua, Gisborne, has been without supplies, and the lack has made itself felt. Recently the collector of customs, Mr. J. C. Patrick, submitted representations on the subject to the Department of Industries and Commerce, suggesting that rowboats be licensed for the catching of crayfish. He has received advice that the department is prepared to consider applications from owners of row-boats for licenses. Training Every Fit Man Support for the Government in any scheme to train every man in the Dominion fit for military service, between the ages of 18 and f>o, was offered by the North Canterbury district of the Farmers’ Union in a remit passed at the annual district conference in Christchurch. There was opposition from a few members, who expressed the fear that production would be impeded by such a general system of training, but the conference was nearly unanimous in its approval.
