Main Highways Mileage
An indication that, in view of the present financial stringency, the Main Highways Board could not contemplate this year any increase in road mileage except where a minor increase was unavoidable through adjustments, was given by the board to. the No. 9 Highways District Council which met in Palmerston North. The board’s annual review, in the circumstances, will be confined to adjustments in the main highways system where such adjustments are found to b'e necessary or desirable because of changes in traffic conditions. The amount pf money which can be provided by the board this year is approximately half of last year’s figure.
