SOLDIERS’ PARCELS
REQUIREMENTS KNOWN EAST COAST SHARE 314 Definite advice has been received regarding the most suitable contents of gift parcels for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas, and the following list, in order of preference, was received yesterday afternoon at the meeting of the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Society;— Pipe tobacco, cigarette tobacco or cigarettes; soap; handkerchiefs; razor blades of Gillette type; writing materials; one tin of milk, coffee and milk, chocolate; fruit, honey, or fruit salts; cake or small cakes in tin; tin of sweets, preferably barley sugar.
The soap must be contained in a tin, sealed so that the odour of the soap does not permeate the rest of the parcel. Cigarettes and tobacco also should be in airtight tins. The parcels should be packed tightly with the smallest amount of packing material possible, so as to conserve space. The number of second gift parcels vnriuirf.a j s i 4,000, the East Coast share being 314.
