Last Night's Forecast General Situation: An anti-cyclone is centred near the Auckland Peninsula, while a trough of low pressure extends from the central Tasman on to southern New Zealand. Forecast: Winds, moderate northerlies to north-westerlies, later turning more westerly over the South Island, freshening from Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay southward. Seas: In New Zealand wafers. slight tc moderate but rising in the far southwest. and later in Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate northerlies at first in the northern portion, otherwise moderate to fresh winds from a westerly quarter: seas moderate but rising. Weather: Cloudy to overcast in Westland, Southland and Otago, v/ilh occasional rain or drizzle; elsewhere fair to fine, but scattered showers extending later to western districts of the North Island. Temperatures: Moderate. To-Day’s North Island Report Barometric pressure was high over the whole of the North Island this morning, and temperatures at 9 a.m. ranged from 58 degrees at Cape Maria van Diemen down to 42 degrees at Opotiki. Light variable winds were reported, and overcast conditions were general, though visibility was very good to excellent at all stations. Sea conditions were slight to moderate. Midday Forecast General Situation.—-Pressure- remains high to the north while a deep westerly depression is located south of Tasmania. Forecast. —Light to moderate and variable winds. Weather: Fair to fine, with cold night and moderate day temperatures. Seas: Slight.
