HIGHER REVENUE

OTAGO CUSTOMS RETURNS (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The total customs revenue collected at the port of Otago during the month just ended showed an increase of £42.368 over that collected in May, 1939. Customs duty alone showed an increase of over £24,000 and sales tax totalled £31,364, compared with £26,864 in May of last year. Although there has been an increase in beer duty since May of last year, Ihe total amount collected from this form of taxation was only £2555 greater than that recorded in the corresponding month of last year. On account of the petrol restrictions, the petrol tax and tyre tax showed considerable decreases.
