POWER AUTHORITY

ELECTRICAL SERVICE P.B. BOARD’S MEETING Yesterday’s meeting of the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board dealt with a number of matters of general interest, but the more important items were raised under circumstances which called for private discussion. The meeting was attended by Messrs. F. R. Ball, chairman, H.H. De Costa, Chas. Matthews, A. A. Fraser, C. W. Izod, J. E. Benson, G. D. Muirhead, J. H. Hall, T. Corson, M. T. Trafford, B. J. Holdsworth, and C. E. Mills. The board received from the Elec-tric-Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association an outline of the negotiations proceeding with respect to a public-risk insurance scheme. The risk to be covered, the chairman stated, was loss to individuals caused through the falling of poles and lines. The negotiations were not yet complete, but he hoped to have further information at an early meeting. ■ A survey of steps initiated to reinforce the general supply of electrical power was contained in a letter received from the Controller of Electricity, and was discussed in committee. The* managing-secretary, Mr. R. P. Baigerit, arid the engineer, Mr. F. Matthewson, both reported upon the situation as it : affected the board’s district.

In the report of the finance committee, the board was recommended to support remits for the annual conference of the Power Boards’ Association, calling for executive consideration of a combined buying scheme, and providing for a substantial reduction of the personnel of the executive. The chairman explained that the executive as at present constituted was unwieldy owing to the number of members. The remits were adopted by the meeting. The finance committee also recommended the board to claim v £1227 from the depreciation fund commissioners, representing the cost of hire ranges vfchich had ! been scrapped and replaced by new ranges, l The board adopted the course proposed.
