BACK FROM SYDNEY
FLYING-BOAT AWARUA GOOD FLYING WEATHER (Per X’ress Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Crossing the Tasman in Bhr. 20min„ the flying-boat Awarua arrived •at Auckland from Sydney at 2.20 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Commanded by Captain J. W. Burgess, the machine carried five passengers, together with approximately 3301 b. of mail and 2451 b. of freight l'or New Zealand. The passengers were Mrs. M. McKeown, Miss Z. Bright, FlightLieutenant J. M. Buckeridge, actingdirector of civil aviation in New Zealand, and Messrs. D ( , Henry and E. Paton. Flight-lieutenant Buckeridge flew to Sydney from Auckland on May 22. The flying-boat left Sydney at 4.30 a.m. eastern Australian time. Westerly winds were encountered for the greater part of the crossing, which was undertaken mainly at a height of about 10,000 ft. Good flying conditions prevailed, although the machine emerged from a local rainstorm to land on Waitcmnta harbour. ffRHfC
