AFRICAN COCOA CROPS EXCESS OF STOCKS (British Official Wireloss.) Reed. 9 a.m RUGBY, May 29. The Colonial Under-Secretary, Mr. G. H. Hall, answering a question in the House of Commons, stated_ that the accumulation of cocoa stocks in West Africa owing to loss of prewar markets particularly in Germany, Holland and Scandinavia, has created serious pressure on the available storage space, and the Government has decided, after full consultation with the Gold Coast ancl Nigerian Governments, that it is most economical to destroy the mid-crop as it is purchased. This crop is of inferior quality to the main crop and by quickly breeding insect pests becomes a menace to the new crop
