Hockey Tourney Abandoned

Arrangements had been made by the Poverty Bay Hockey Association to hold the usual King’s Birthday tournament on Monday, but in view of the cancellation of the public holiday for that date the association to-day decided- to abandon the tournament. Wairoa Farmers’ Tour A party of 19 farmers from Wairoa is making a tour of the Rotorua and Waikato districts. On the Rotorua section of the trip they inspected developmental areas of pumice land, and were welcomed at the NgakuruGuthrie settlement, Horohora native settlement and the State sawmill at Whakarewarewa, while later they went on to the Tirau dairy factory, Arapuni and Te Awamutu. Prominent members of the party are: —Mr. D. D. Pryde, leader, chairman of the W'nakaki Drainage Board, director of tha Wairoa Dairy Company, and member of the Wairoa Power Board; Mr. C. G Ormond, member of the Wairoa County Council and Wairoa Dairy Company; Mr. H. R. Hickling, director of ,the Wairoa Dairy Company, and past president of the Wairoa A. and P. Association; Mr. J. M. Taylor; chairman of the Wairoa Hospital I Board.
