This Morning’s Frost A frost of five degrees was recorded at the meteorological station at Darton Field this morning. This is one of the heaviest frests so far experienced in Gisborne this winter. School Holiday Abandoned Advice was received from the secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board. Mr. W. L. Dunn, by telephone to-day that following the announcement regarding the abandonment of the King’s Birthday holiday on Monday, all schools would remain open, on tnat day. Shorter Post Office Hours Shorter hours of attendance at the postal counter in the Chief Post Office Gisborne, are to be observed from next Tuesday in order to conserve man-power for the release of officers for military service. At present there is a continuous attendance at the counter from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., but from Tuesday the hours observed will be from 8 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“Fighting Drunk’’ A fine of £3 and costs 4s 8d was imposed on Edward Burton, aged 50. a labourer, when he appeared before Messrs. T. Corson and A. A. Fraser. J.P.s, in the Police Court in Gisborne to-day on a charge of using obscene language in Awapuni road last evening. On a charge of having’ been drunk in a public place, he was convicted and discharged. SeniorSergeant J. F. H. Macnamara said that when Constable Heaslip was summoned to the house following a complaint by the accused’s wife, the accused was using objectionable language, his condition being what was described as “fighting drunk.” The constable had no power to arrest the man in the house, so he arranged to remove the wife and family the time being. While the constable wa? taking them to the car, the accused followed to the road, where he was arrested.
