MAYOR AS RECRUIT
CHRISTCHURCH M.P. -WILL GO ANYWHERE” (Pur Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Among this morning’s enlistments was the Mayor, Mr. R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.,.who was a caller at the recruiting depot in Cathedral Square. Mr. Macfarlane, who is member of Parliament for Christchurch South Is married, 39 years of age and has an eight-months-old daughter. Commenting on his decision to enlist, the Mayor said he was prepared and had been prepared for a considerable time to take part in any military capacity in which he might be called on to serve, even to going overseas. Since the beginning of Hie war. however, he had been devoting all the lime he could possibly spare to furthering the necessary organisation of war work and the Canterbury provincial Patriotic Fund in particular. He now felt the time had arrived, in view of the manner in which the war situation had developed, when anyone who could render service even to the extent of going overseas, should come forward. On the next occasion on which he had an opportunity of delivering a public address he would make some further comment on the war situation, and his own attitude. As a final comment he said lie was prepared to take on anything and go anywhere.
