SHORTAGE OF LEMONS
UNATTRACTIVE PRICES GROWERS DISSATISFIED Lemons are in restricted supply ii ,he Gisborne district. The crop is little larger than last year’s, but deliveries from the orchards are nc better. Growers express dissatisfaction will the prices fixed by the Interna: Marketing Department. The maximum price during the summer did no occasion much criticism, but as the season advances the prices have beer: reduced by Is 2d per case to 5s foi a cure-packed bushel case, while later on tire price will go down to 4s lOd. The main complaint is that tin prices have been reduced 100 early It is said that there is still a scarcity of lemons, and under such condition growers contend that the price pair to them should be maintained unt: supplies become more plentiful. Most of the bigger growers appea: to be- sending in their lemons ir order to keep their orchards clear but many of the smaller growers dr not find it profitable to go to the expense of picking, packing and sending mto town for the price offered. The lemon groves, too. are said to br going back, for growers slate tiia* they are not receiving sufficient remuneration to warrant carrying or heir work.
