“TIME FOR WHISTLE”
THREAT TO EMPIRE CONFIDENCE IN N.Z. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. "It takes 18 months to two years for the British Empire to reach full war strength, ’’ said Captain 11. M. Rushworth, president of the Auckland provincial branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, addressing the annual conference. He said the Germans had to win the war within two months or they could not will. Even the farmers in the backblocks realised the danger io the Empire. This was a time for a cheery whistle and the lilt of a marching song. It was fortunate the Empire had an inspiring leader in Mr. Winston Churchill.
“There is a note that is grim and earnest in New Zealand, said the Dominion president, Mr. W. W. Mulbolland. “But it is a note of confidence. The aim of the Dominion should be to maintain a reserve of supplies throughout the war.”
