ROUND-UP OF WOMEN
ALIENS IN BRITAIN 3300 FOR INTERNMENT (Reed. May 28, 9 a.m.) LONDON, May 27. The Home Secretary, Sir John Anderson, has authorised the temporary internment of all Austrian a net German women throughout Britain between the ages of 16 and 60. Hitherto they have only been compelled to comply with special restrictions. These women who are being interned on the Isle of Man will be allowed to take children under 16 years.
Over 1000 have been rounded up in London. The order affects 3300 in Britain. Many resident in Glasgow and Sheffield, have also been detained. The husbands of many of the internees have already- been interned. The Government has taken over the whole of Port Erin on the southern part of the fsle of Man for the internment of women aliens, who will be billeted in hostels and boardinghouses, the proprietors of which must receive so much per capita which will be paid by the Government. Barbed wire and a military guard will encircle the town, leaving' the women the use of the beach and tennis courts.
