PRO. WRESTLING
SATURDAY’S MATCH BLOMFIELD-CORBETT Wrestling activities in Gisborne for the 1940 season will commence' on Saturday, June 1, with a bout between Sergeant-Major “Lofty" Blomfield. the New Zealand champion, and Joe Corbett, a handsome and polished wrestler from Boston. With two such high class wrestlers matched, the public is assured of a fast and exciting contest in which there will be skilful' wrestling as well as the rugged and spectacular type which arouse so much enthusiasm. Biomfield was one of the first to answer the call to tire colours on the outbreak of war and, as he has been in camp ever since, he has not been able to wrestle as frequently as usual. His camp training, however, has made him exceptionally fit and his performances have shown that he is at the top of his form. Biomfield is a particular favourite in Gisborne and it certainly puts the finishing touches on the opening attraction that he should be one of the contestants. Corbett, however, is an opponent whose ability commands serious respect. He showed this when he r>' matched with Earl McCroady early in his tour and gave the Empire champion one of the hardest tussles it has ever been the latter’s lot to experience. His effort, however, war no great surprise to those wlm '• conversant with his career. He has accounted for Ali Baba (twice). Vvonn Robert, Joe Savoldi, and Gus Sonnenber.v. all of '"dinrh are former holders of the world title.
