PLOT BY STALIN
CHARGE BY TROTSKY MACHINE-GUN ATTACK BULLET IN PILLOW SIXTH-SENSE ESCAPE (Elec. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. May 24. 1.20 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, May 24. Further details are disclosed concerning the attack reported to have been made by 30 to 40 men armed with machine-guns on the Russian exile. M. Leon Trotsky, firing into his bedroom with the result that M. Trotsky was slightly injured by flying glass. M. Trotsky alleged that the attack was “organised by the Ogpu under M. Stalin’s direct supervision.” He said that he and his wife Natalia escaped by an inspired sixth sense, rolling out of their beds to the floor. It was discovered later that one bullet had pierced the pillow where M. Trotsky’s head had lain. The raiders, after binding five policemen who were stationed in the grounds, machine-gunned the bedroom for a quarter of an hour. They also hurled in thermos bottles containing incendiary liquid, starting two fires, which Madame Trotsky extinguished with blankets.
