£584 IN HAND

RED CROSS APPEAL JOINT COUNCIL FUNDS SICK AND WOUNDED DISTRICT ACTIVITIES Reporting at a meeting of the district joint committee of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross, in connection with the progress of the sick and wounded soldiers, fund appeal, Mr. J. J. Macdonald, hon. secretary, stated that the donations received to date now amounted to £584 11s. This indication of satisfactory progress was received with gratification'. Those present were Messrs. H. H. De Costa, chairman, J. 11. Hall, T. G. Johns, T. J. Poswillo, W. E. Bullivant, Dr. A. L. Singer, Mr. D. C. Purdie, hon. organiser, and Mr. J. J. Macdonald, hon. secretary. An offer of £lO worth of groceries from Self-Help, Limited, was received with applause, and arrangements were put in train, for disposing of the gift to the best advantage. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of acknowledgment to the donors. The organiser stated that the house-to-house canvass committees of women are now organised and ready for action. A collection of donations from members of the Public Service also had been arranged for. The organisation of an effort by the Boy Scout Association on behalf of the fund was discussed, and Mr. Purdie and the secretary were authorised to give every assistance on behalf of the committee. It was suggested that a progress report should be put before next meeting of the committee in respect of the stock drive projected by Mr. Roland Graham. The Latest Donations The position of the sick and wounded fund for this district is as shown below: —

Residents who desire to make direct contributions to the fund may do so at the office of Messrs. J. J. Mficdonald and Son., 81 Lowe street, where official receipts for contributions Will be given.
