Superstition Survives

Credence for superstitious beliefs of some of the older Maoris at Oliinemutu has been stimulated by recent happenings in the village. It is an old belief that the persistent howling of.a dog is an omen of death, arid before each of the occasions when a death has occurred in the village during the past two months one small black Pommeranian has made the „ night sleepless with his barking. Those who would cling to the superstition maintain that at no other time has the dog barked ! so consistently.
