HISTORIC GARDENS

MAY BE DUG FOR FOOD PARIS, April 1. The famous gardens of the Tuileries, the Luxemburg, and the Parc Monceau, in Paris, may soon be dug up to grow vegetables. An official in the office of the Prefect of the Seine said: “Personally, monsieur, I think cabbages and carrots would look charming in the Tuileries. Better than anything, in fact.” Paris-Soir says: “In London . the incomparable lawns of Buckingham Palace have already been dug to grow green peas for the royal tables.” The newspaper asks for public earth to grow food for the public. Six holes of one of the best golf courses neap Paris are now used for grazing. There have been no complaints.
