IMPROVED DEMAND SHEEP PRICES HIGHER BEEF RECOVERS DROP ADDINGTON MARKET (Por Prciss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. There was a better sale in the major sections of stock at Addington yesterday. Better classes of store ewes were in greater demand. Fat lambs sold particularly well and freezing classes of fat sheep also made slightly higher prices, with the best sorts unchanged. Fat cattle recovererd last week's drop of £1 a head. In the fat lamb section 1400 were, penned, compared with 920 last week. le keen competition from exporters was maintained, buyers paying full schedule rates. Butchers had a better selection of prime pens, although the | quality was patchy, j About 0000 fat sheep came forward, j The sale opened well and continued so | throughout. Heavy wethers and the I best ewes were a shade dearer than last week, but light ewes were up by Is to Is 6d a head and medium wethers by Is a head. A fair proportion of the lighter ewes went to export buyers, who were able to advance to their limits because of the increased schedule. Prime heavy wethers made 30s <o 335, with extra good sorts at 39s lOd. Medium-weights sold from ;16s and lighter grades from 22s Gd upwards. Prime ewes sold at from 24s Gd to 275, tops at 30s lOd. ordinary grades from 15s Gd to 20s, and prime medium-weights at 20s to 245. In the store sheep section 5000 head came forward, representing a slight reduction on last week. Better quality sheep were penned and there was a brisker demand. Good sound-mouthed ewes made to 14s 9d, this being paid for a line of 399. Other pens sold from 10s to 13s down to 6s. The best of a few pens of two-tooths made 18s Id to 18s 9d. There was a better tone in the lamb section, with forward rape sorts selling up to 21s 3d and average lines at 18s. Two-tooth wethers were ! n small supply and the best made 18s 9d.

Four hundred and fifty fat cattle were offered, compared with 726 last week. There was a brisker demand, and values for good cattle improved by about 20s a head, and lighter sorts by 15s a head. The best beef made from 37s to 39s per 1001 b, with some pens 2s higher. Medium classes sold at 33s to 36s and rough down to 275. Prime medium-weight steers made £l3 10s to £ls, good to £l7, and tops tc £2O; ordinary sorts £9 to £l2; prime heifers £9 10s to £l3 10s, and lighter sorts from £6 10s upwards. Prime cows ranged from £9 to £ll, tops to £l3.

The porker entry was a good deal ligh‘er than last week. Good quality pigs made from 2s to 3s better, with a similar improvement for baconers. Light and medium porkers made 35s Gd to 53s Gd, with the heaviest sorts up to £3 3s Gd. The average price was 7d to 71d per lb. Medium and light baconers made £3 10s to £4 10s, and extra heavy pigs up to £5 10s.
