Unlawfully on Racecourse

On a charge of having been unlawfully on the Makaraka racecourse on May 13, John Jamieson Fraser (Mr. L. T. Burhard) was convicted and fined £2 and costs 10s by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Police Court today. Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson said that Fraser had no explanation for his presence on the course when spoken to, but said that he had recently arrived at Gisborne from Rotorua. Mr. Burnard said his client had gone to the course to see the man in charge of a job at Waikaremoana, on which he was now employed. He was anxious not to fail to communicate with his prospective employer.
