WRESTLING SEASON
GISBORNE OPENING RODEO NIGHT FIXTURE WAR FUND MAY BENEFIT Though city audiences have had the opportunity of seeing professional heavyweight wrestlers in action on several occasions this season, Gisborne has yet to stage its opening match. The New Zealand union has offered Gisborne a fixture for June 1, the night of the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association's rodeo. The executive of the Gisborne association has accepted the match provisionally. and supporters of wrestling have been notified that membership may be arranged. The executive proposes to make an allocation of part of its profits to the funds of the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Council, and in order that the contribution should be substantial, it is seeking the services of Sergeant-Major “Lofty Blomfield as one of the contestants in the professional match. A number of district amateurs have been in training in the hone that they will get matches this season, and the association should have little difficulty in arranging an attractive programme.
