Mr. R. N. Jones, formerly chief judge of the Native Land Court, will visit Gisborne during the week-end for the funeral of the late Mr. H. R. H. Balneavis, whose death in Wellington on Monday closed a distinguished career as private secretary to the Native Minister. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P.. has been unable to attend to public business during the past few days, as he has been suffering from a severe attack of influenza. He is making a good recovery, but will be unable to attend to public duties for a few days yet. Mr. John Nicholson Macintosh, formerly of Timaru, has been appointed British Vice-Consul at Santa -Fe. Argentina, by the British Consul at Rossario. Mr Macintosh is a son of Mr. C. M. Macintosh, an ex-Mayor of Timaru. He was educated at the Waimataitai School, but when he was 12 he went to South Amirica, returning to live at Timaru for a while, and leaving the second time at the age of 23.
