BURNHAM DRAFT
[DEPARTURE MONDAY THIRD ECHELON TROOPS AMBULANCE & CAVALRY The first of the Gisborne-East Coast drafts sent forward to form the Third Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force will leave on Monday morning for Wairoa and Napier, on the first stage of the journey to Burnham camp, Christchurch, where they will train for their respective parts in the Dominion war effort. The draft will be a small one, comprising men selected for the Sixth Field Ambulance and for the Divisional Cavalry in training at Burnham, In all, 13 men will go forward from the East Coast, Gisborne and Wairoa on Monday as the forerunner of a contribution of about 300 men from this sub-area to the Third Echelon. The other portions of the district quota will proceed to camp at Papakura and Trentham later in the week—on Wednesday and Friday respectively.
