LANDING IN ICELAND

BRITISH FORCE ARRIVES GUARANTEE OF SECURITY (Reed. Mav 11, 9. a.m.) LONDON. May 10. It is officially announced that a British force has landed in Iceland. The British Government has given the Icelandic Government specific guarantees that the force has been landed to ensure Iceland’s security against German invasion. The force will be withdrawn on the conclusion of hostilities. The British Government has made it plain to the Icelandic Government that it has no intention or desire to interfere with the island’s existing administration and further it is prepared at once to negotiate with the Icelandic Government an agreement on trade matters which, it is anticipated, would bring material advantage to the inhabitants.
