THE VAL-BENOTT BRIDGE AT LEIGE, BELGIUM, which was mined by army sappers in view of the war, was wrecked on September 2, 1939, when lightning struck the iron structure and exploded the mines just as a train was passing over the bridge. Ten people were killed and 30 injured.
