TEAM EXPELLED

I morere rugby players I ! FAILED TO TURN UP i WAIROA SUB-UNION ACTS (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Last week the management committee of the Wairoa County Rugby SubUnion accepted the nomination of another senior team, to be known as Morere. for this season's competition, but at this week’s meeting,- held on Monday evening, the committee decided that Morere should be debarred from the competition. The reason for the committee's action is the failure of Morere to field a team for their first game, which was to have been played in Nuhaka last Saturday against Y.M.P., and the failure of the team to advise that it did not intend to field a team. It was reported to the committee that the sub-union officials appointed to the game went to Nuhaka, but Morere failed to appear. There was a large crowd present to sec the match, and in addition to the fact that the loss' of the “gate” was a serious thing to the sub-union, the people who went to see the game were extremely dis- ’ appointed. There had been no intimation that Morere did not intend to field a team, and no explanation had been given since then. On receiving this report the committee decided that Morere be debarred from the competition. King’s Day Match Advice was received from the Poverty Bay Rugby Union that it was unable to accept Wairoa’s invitation to send a representative side to Wairoa to play a match with' this district’s representatives cn King's Day, June 3, the Poverty Bay union’s reason being that it had made -other arrangements for that day. Efforts are to be made by the Wairoa sub-union to arrange a fixture for that day, one suggestion being that an endeavour be made to get £ Hawke’s Bay side to visit Wairoa. Fixtures For Saturday The following are the fixtures for Saturday, together with the referees: Seniors.—Athletic v. Y.M.P., Wairoa No. 1 ground, 2.45 p.m„ referee Mr. A. Ellis; Nuhaka A v. Nuhaka B. in Nuhaka, 2.30 p.m.. Mr. M. G. Mackay. Juniors—Y.M.P. v. Athletic, Wairoa No. 1 ground, 1.30 p.m., Mr. N. Turfrey; Nuhaka, a bye. Third Grade—High School v. Scouts.
