AIR ACTION
BRITISH BOMBING FIORD OF BERGEN NAZI SHIP'S BERTH WIDE PATCH OF OIL “EFFECTIVE’' OPERATIONS (Elnc. T«l. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 2 p.rn. RUGBY, April 11. Mr. Winston Churchill’s story of
Wednesday, given in the House oC Commons to-day, was of air action and bombing in the Bergen Fiord by the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm. The last detail he gave the House was of the attack at daybreak to-day by 13 torpedo-carrying aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm on enemy shipping in Trondheim harbour. Amongst to-day's reports of air activity are two from Norway and a brief account of yesterday’s raid on Scapa Flow and Moray Firth, which arc described as the “largest air ! attacks of the war.” Sixty German Machines | About GO Nazi machines took part in l the Scottish raids, of which at least ! eight will never return. No damage j was done by the raiders, either to shipping or property. Over Bergen harbour reconnaissance aircraft of the Coastal Command found the berth of a Nazi cruiser empty and the place taken by an oil patch about a mile long, and although the neighbouring fiords were searched j no trace of the bombed vessel was seen. ! London air circles take the view that i the Fleet Air Arm operations were completely effective. Other news from | Norway concerns a Royal Air Force , long-range fighter which dived over a i Nazi-occupied aerodrome and successI fully machine-gunned assembled air-
| craft, destroying a Heinkel and damaging another, after which the pilot sprayed Boehm and Voss aircraft with bullets. A heavy bomber being refuelled was set on fire. On the way home the fighter engaged a Junker 88 and put the port engine and rear gun of the German plane out of action.
