174 BABIES FILMED
GISBORNE CONTEST LAST “SHOTS” TO-DAY” EARLY SCREENING The last of the babies entered in the St. John Ambulance Association’s baby contest were filmed this morning, when four which were unable to come before the camera in time yesterday were dealt with. In all, there are 174 babies in the Gisborne section of the contest, which is a Dominion-wide one with a first prize of £SOO for the New Zealand winner.
During his work at the Majestic Theatre, the official cinematographer, Mr. Havelock Williams, had the assistance of a number of ladies from the St. John Ambulance Association who took it in relays to attend to the preliminary work, while Mr. E. T. Doddrell, jun., whose camera was requisitioned after an accident to the official machine, also gave valuable help. Arrangements have been made for an early screening of the films taken during the past two days, and they may be ready within a week or 10 days. It is proposed to screen them in batches of 58 babies, one length being used per night, and the contest will last for four weeks, during which the pictures of each baby will be shown twice a week.
