Patutahi Gardening Circle

On Thursday afternoon, members of the Patutahi Garden Circle met in the Patutahi Hall, Mrs. E. R. Renner, convener, presiding. There was a good attendance. Members answered the roll call, telling of observations and experiments in their gardens. The work for the month in vegetable and flower gardens was dealt with. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mosdames Ritchie and H. Atkins. Mrs. G. Scragg presented the convener. Mrs. Renner, with a dainty bouquet and a piece of modern Eastern pottery. In making the presentation, Mrs. Scragg referred to the great help Mrs. Renner had given to circle members during her three years’ leadership, expressing their regret at her resignation. Mrs. Renner, in thanking the members for their kindly thoughts and gifts, said she had derived much pleasure from the Garden Circle during her term of office and appreciated the friendship and loyalty that had been shown her at all times. The winners in the afternoon’s competitions were:— Vase of zinnias—Mrs, Jas. Atkins, 1; Mrs. Ballard. 2; Mrs. W. Atkins, 3. Specimen bloom —Mrs. Eade, 1; Mrs. Peel, 2; Mrs. W. Atkins, 3. The trophy for the best specimen bloom for each month, a competition which has been keenly contested during the year by members, was won outright by Mrs. R. J. Eade.
