SUCCOUR BY PLANE
INJURED BUSHMAN DOCTOR MAKES FLIGHT (Per Press Association.) * AUCKLAND, this day. To bring medical aid to a bushman who suffered severe injuries when he was struck by a falling tree, a doctor was dispatched from Auckland to Great Barrier Island in a naval amphibian aircraft late yesterday afternoon With ihe approach of nightfall, the amphibian returned, but the passenger. Dr. Garfield Stewart, remained to attend to the injured man, who left last night by launch i'or the city. Advice of the accident was received at about 4 o’clock by the medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital. He communicated with the naval authorities and shortly afterwards the amphibian took off from Hobsonville air base. A landing was made on the aerodrome at Great Barrier about 30 minutes later. From the scene of the accident, the injured man had to be transported through rough country for about for err five miles before reaching the aerodrome and when he had not arrived in the early evening it was necessary for the pilot to take off in the failing light and return to Hobsonville. »Here a landing was made with the assistance of flares.
