Manhole Covers Removed

Ofiicers of ihe Christchurch Drainage Board have recently been disturbed over the practice, which is becoming prevalent, of removing the covers from sewer manholes in the streets. In one suburb, the covers oi manholes and the cover of a siphon well have been removed, presumably by larrikins. The board takes a serious view of the matter, because the covers close holes large enough to upset a motor car if it hit. them, or to drown a child if it fell in. Considerable strength was needed to remove the siphon well cover, which is a circular wooden construction four feet across and bound and fastened with iron.
