PURCHASES FROM U.S.A. SUBSTANTIAL RISES (Reed March 28, 3 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 27. Illustrating the rise in Russian purchases of United States’ metals, the Department of Commerce has revealed that the Soviet purchased 53,205,7841 b of copper in January, compared with 45,496,194 lb on the previous two months, 1.2,194,7181 b and molybdenum in October, November and December compared with 5,948,6G01b in the previous nine months. The Soviet started buying tin in November when it took 67,1921 b. In December the shipments totalled 1,889,4581 b and in January 2,138,1581 b.
