GIFT FOR MEMORIAL

LATE COL. G. MITCHELL SERVICES TO S.P.C.A. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The work performed byHhe late Col. G. Mitchell for the S.P.C.A. was recognised by an anonymous donor in sending £2O to the annual conference as a memorial. The chairman, Mr. J. H. Howell, mentioned that Col. Mitchell was the originator of the federation idea. In the S.P.C.A., he was an active worker till the time of his death. Some discussion took place with regard to asking the Government at some opportune time for financial assistance. It was mentioned that the only assistance ever received from any Government was once from art union funds. There are quite a number of remits for consideration by the conference.
