NEED FOR PRODUCTION

FINANCES OF DOMINION MR. GOOSMAN’S VIEW The opinion that the coming session of Parliament would be concerned mostly with finance and production was expressed in Hamilton by Mr. W. S. Goosman, M.P. for Waikato. “In his first Budget, the Hon. W. Nash said there were works from which a reasonable return could not be expected within a term of years, and that it would not be wise to spend capital on them. He proposed to finance them, as far as possible, out of revenue.” Mr. Goosman stated. “If that was the case, the labour could be better employed now in increasing production for export and so assisting the finances of the country.” Mr. Goosman pointed out that in the coming year the Dominion would have to find some additional millions out of the export surplus to redeem part of the loan renewed for a short term last July. An export surplus much above the average was required, and this in turn demanded increased production.
