The polar explorer, Sir Hubert Wilkins, is en route to North Canada to prepare an expedition to the Arctic. I-Ie plans to construct a 45ft. submarine and establish a base on the Mackenzie River, far south of Aklavik. I-Ie said he would portage the submarine around unnavigablc stretches. He believed the craft could be operated by a crew of four under the ice to study polar marine life.
