ARBITRATION JUDGE MINISTER’S DEFENCE iT’ur Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. When a suggestion was made to the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, on Saturday, that in the appointment of Mr. A. Tyndall to the position of judge of the Arbitration Court there had been a complete departure from precedent and the appointment was unorthodox, Mr. Webb replied: “Possibly so. It was my job as Minister to appoint the man I thought would fill the position with credit. Mr. Tyndall has a difficult task ahead of him. The court has high traditions and lie succeeds many eminent men. “While the appointment may be away from the orthodox, I feel we have appointed the man for the job. I am convinced that no one in New Zealand is better qualified for the position than our new judge. He fills the legal requirements of his position, for he is a qualified lawyer and he has a wide knowledge of industry. He is a civil engineer efr high qualifications and wide experience, and his knowledge extends to other branches of industry. lam satisfied that he will acquit himself in his new position in a manner that will gain the full approval of everyone.”
