OLDEST N.Z. PERSON
BORN IN DOMINION QUEST BY LIBRARIAN Stating that it is a matter of general interest to know who is the oldest surviving white person born in New Zealand, Dr. G. H. Scholefield, of the General Assembly Library, Wellington, writes that Mrs. Selina Warnock, of Christchurch, was born at Wakefield, Nelson, on May 9. 1845. Her father was Mr. Benjamin Lines, who arrived by the sailing ship Thomas Harrison in October, 1842. Dr. Scholefield says it would be interesting to hear of anybody now alive who was born in New Zealand before that date. The Government Statistician, he says, states that there are 275 people in New Zealand over the age of 90, including many over 100. Many of these people were born outside New Zealand, but a great number must have been born in the Dominion.
