SCHOOL SWIMMING (Herald Correspondent.) In the school long distance swimming tests, there have been some very creditable performances. Nine pupils covered a mile or more, and of these, two did two miles, and one 2000vds. Among the milers were three pupils who are only 10 years old, June Scott, Marie White, and Winnie Crabbe. Those who have gained certificates ,50 far are: —Letty Pemberton, and Patricia Highct, 2 miles; Keith Doyle, 2000yds; John McEnnis, Ken Gordon, Rae Gordon, June Scott, Winnie Crabbe, and Marie White, 1 mile; Noeleen Doyle, 1000yds; Dick Gordon, half mile; Winnie Wniroa, 700yds; George Cumming, 500yds; Noel Hilliard, 450yds; Tom Scott, 100yds; Pam Elliot and Audrey Hunter, 50yds; Phyllis Hart, Huia Ferguson, Tom Cumming and Rae Harris, 25yds. , Mr. Ron Pemberton, who is a member of the crew of H.M.S. Achilles, has arrived home on leave, which will bo spent with his parents,
! Mr. and Mrs. F. Pemberton, No. 3 1 Camp. Master Bill Pemberton, who has been an inmate of the Wairoa llos--1 pital for the past week, has returned home. Temperatures in the valley have been particularly high lately, the whole of last week being very trying. Wednesday’s maximum reached 87 degrees in the school and ThursI day’s reading was 88 degrees. Friday morning commenced with the high reading of 79 degrees at 9 o'clock, and soon rose over 80 degrees and had reached 88 degrees by midday.
