SECRETARIAL POST

NATIONAL SECURITY MR. F. SHANAHAN CHOSEN (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The appointment of Mr. Foss Shanahan, LL.M., as secretary to the Organisation of National Security, was announced yesterday. He succeeds Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Stevens, who has joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas. Mr. Shanahan was transferred from head office of the Customs Department to the Organisation of National Security in September, 1938, and shortly afterwards lie was appointed assistant secretary. He was cducaled at the Christian Brothers’ School, Dunedin, and Wai-' taki Boys’ High School. After matriculating lie went to Otago University' and later to Victoria University College. Mr. Shanahan joined the public service in 1928. Up to the time of his appointment to the Organisation of National Security all his service had been with ''the Customs Department.
