END OF MONTH RAIN FEBRUARY'S 1.251 N. FALL The rainfall in Gisborne last month would have been one of the lowest on record had it not been for steady rain on February 25, when .85in. was registered. Until tLen only .40in. had been recorded at the Gisborne meteorology cal station at Darton Field aerodrome. Tire rainfall for the month" totalled 1.25 in. at the aerodrome and 1.31 in. at the signal station. Strong winds and high temperatures, following shortly„after the refreshing rain, did much to reduce the good effect of the rain. The February rainfall since 1936 is as follows: 1936, 10.86 in.; 1937, ,73in.; 1938, 9.9 Gin.; 1939, 1.05 in.; 1940, 1.25 in.; average for 60 years, 3.47 in. At the aerodrome rain fell on four days last month, and at the Gisborne Harbour Board’s signal station rain was recorded on six days, The. individual daily readings at the aerodrome are as follows, the signal station figures being shown in parentheses for comparison: February 1, (.Olin.); February 3, ,12in.
