CLOSING OF FACTORIES SUPPLY SHORTAGES (Reed. March 1, 2.30 p.m.) BERLIN, Feb. 29. The German Air Minister, Field Marshal Goering. surprisingly explains the new taxation after the closure of factories now engaged m war work as reported necessary in order to conserve the supply of materials. : “The lack of raw materials and tne necessity for economy in currency and also the general shortage of labour has caused the closing down of many branches of our industry, said General Goering. “These are now our serious need.” The Reich defence council, of which General Goerlhg is the president, has estimated that £100,000.000 will be required for this purpose and has decided that every enterprise excepting those associated with agriculture and overseas shipping must be taxed according to investments “on then premises.”
