DUTCH NAVAL GUNS

NORTH SEA EXERCISES FLASHES DURING NIGHT (Reed. March 1, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 29. The Hague correspondent of Reuter’s agency reported to-day that heavy gunfire had been heard at midnight off the Dutch coast in the direction of the North Sea. It was believed at first that a naval battle was in progress. The firing lasted for an hour. Flashes of exploding shells could be seen from the shore. A subsequent Amsterdam message, however, stated that the gunfire was from Dutch naval vessels carrying out night exercises.
