NEW ENROLMENTS
GISBORNE RECRUITING TOTAL PASSES 1700 MARK MAORIS OFFERING WELL MANY COUNTRY BOYS Recent enrolments for the Dominion’s fighting forces have brought the Gisborne and East Coast total to over 1700, with the Maori community supplying about two-fifths of the number. The proportion of men passing the medical boards, and thus qualifying for selection as members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is highly satisfactory, and the raising of the district quota for the Third Echelon is provided for beyond any question. Country boys represent a large proportion of European enrolments. Latest additions to the lists are as under:— N.Z. SPECIAL FORCE Hawke, T. S. Boyce, D. R. Eivers, R. G. Jefferd, J. B. Sadler, R.
